The Odisha government on Tuesday released the rankings for polytechnic colleges in the State in which 32 government-run and 70 privately-owned colleges were evaluated.

This is the first time such a ranking has been undertaken for polytechnics in Odisha.

The Odisha Skill Development and Technical Education minister Pritiranjan Gharai released the list in a press conference today in Bhubaneswar.

The top 10 colleges in the rankings were equally shared by private and government colleges while a Bhubaneswar-based private college topped the ranking chart.

Addressing the presser, Gharai said, “This is the first time ever polytechnic colleges have been subjected to review and ranking on the basis of quality education. It has been done in collaboration with the Quality Council of India (QCA).”

The rankings were provided after taking many parameters into account including the admission attendance discipline, teaching learning and resources, financial, administrative and examination record maintenance, infrastructure, result, placement and outcome and other innovative activities.

“The primary objective of this ranking was to bring about a healthy competition among the colleges to maintain quality education in their campuses and to excel in result and placements,” Gharai said.

“I am sure these rankings will make the management of these colleges to introspect,” he hoped.

Hemant Sharma, the Secretary of Odisha Technical Education said, “Today is a big day for technical education as this is the first time such a ranking is released in India. There have been many ranking systems for universities and technical educations in degree level. But no ranking sustem was in place for diploma level technical institutes,” he said.
