The Inspector-In-Charge of the Gangapur Police station died after allegedly sustaining gun-shot wound on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Deb Kumar Gamanga and a native of Jeypore in Odisha's Koraput district.

Sources said Deb inflicted two gun shots on his body and both of them were shot below the waist.

Though it is still not clear how he sustained the injuries, initial reports suggested that an accidental firing might have claimed the police officer's life.

However, contradicting this theory, some said that Gamanga was too experienced to commit such kind of fatal mistakes.

Expressing grief on the death of Gamanga, Ganjam SP, Brijesh Ray said, "He had joined the Gangapur Police station just four months back. I can confirm that the bullet wound he susteined was shot from his service revolver. He was under mental stress from past some months. We can tell more only after completion of the investigation."

The body has been sent for autopsy and the police are awaiting reports, including the forensic report, to begin the investigation.
