Lockers are mostly used in banks and other financial units for storing precious items, but a vendor in the western Bolangir district of Odisha has installed the facility in his shop to serve paan to customers round the clock.

Bizarre it may sound, but Ananda Panjawani, who owns a paan shop at Parsuram Chhak in Kantabanji town of Bolangir has made locker facility to facilitate storing of pans for the regular customers.

Varieties of paans are available at Panjawani’s shop namely Chocolate, Litchi, Orange, Ice and Laddu paan. The price of the pan starts from Rs 20 and goes up to Rs 5,000.

A total of eight lockers have been installed in Panjwani’s shop for the regular customers to store pans. A few lockers have keys, while others are password-enabled. Ananda keeps one key from each locker with him while the other key remain with the customer. Similarly, the secret codes of the password-enabled lockers are known to the customers and the shop owner.

When the shop is closed late in the night, if any bus or truck driver wishes to have paan, he can have it after Panjwani shares the password with him following payment.

“About 150 to 200 varieties of paan are available at my shop. Flavoured pans like Chocolate, Ice Cream besides First Night pan and Anniversary paans are also available. The shop is closed at 10 pm. But if anyone needs paan late night, he can get it from the locker by using the password,” Panjwani said.

Avinash Agarwal, a customer said, “The paan shop in the most famous shop of Kantabanji. Here you can get pan 24X7. As I was supposed to reach the shop late today, I had already told the shop owner to keep paans in the locker from where I can have them.”
