The ministers of the ruling BJD continue to face the wrath of Opposition over the lady teacher Mamita Meher murder case with three ministers being shown black flags at different places on Monday.

Health Minister Naba Kishore Das and Susanta Singh, who hold Labour & Employees' State Insurance and Rural Development portfolios, respectively, faced black flag protest near OMP square while they were returning to the circuit house after attending a programme of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The police have picked up five BJP workers in this connection.

Similarly, the BJP workers showed black flag to Minister Samir Dash outside Gop Community Health Centre in Puri district alleging lack of proper investigation into the Mamita Meher murder case. A faceoff occurred between the BJP and BJD workers following the black flag protest.

Meanwhile, the BJP alleged that the party’s State vice president Biswajit Sarangi and another worker were beaten up by the workers belonging to the ruling BJD for allegedly waving black flag to Minister Naba Das in Jharsuguda.

The party also alleged that police forcibly picked up several supporters.

“The goons of BJD assaulted our party workers in front of the police. It is very unfortunate and not suitable in a democratic state,” alleged Ritarani Panda, a BJP leader.

“We strongly condemn the attacks by the goons of the BJD on our party workers with the help of the police. If the Naveen Patnaik government is trying to suppress us by force, the people of Odisha will not tolerate it,” said Tankadhar Tripathy, another BJP leader.

The reactions of the BJD on the allegations of BJP could not be obtained.
