The tall claims of the Odisha government of alleviating maternal issues seem to be exposed after two separate incidents from Mohana in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Monday have shed light on the mismanagement in offering healthcare services.

While one incident took place in Kusumpali village the other incident is reported from Karchbadi.

As per reports, a pregnant woman was carried on a bed from Kusumpali village to the hospital. The villagers carried the expecting woman through a Nullah due to the absence of a commutable road. Even, the woman had to return to her village in the same way.

In a similar incident, another woman, identified as Namita Paika hailing from Karchbadi village experienced labor pain after which the Asha workers called an ambulance. However, fearing an unexpected delay in the arrival of the ambulance, the Asha workers rushed to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw. But, before reaching the hospital, Namita delivered a baby boy in the auto. Namita and her newborn have been admitted to the hospital and their health condition is said to be stable.

“We took the woman in the auto-rickshaw as it may be unsafe to deliver the child at home in such rainy conditions,” said an Asha worker.
