After news reports containing the non-availability of electricity in Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu’s village aired on OTV, the Odisha government went into overdrive and started proceedings to electrify the same on Saturday.

The State government has begun putting electricity poles and installing transformers on a war footing at Murmu’s village in Dungurisahi under Mayurbhanj’s Kusumi block.

Murmu's native village Dungurisahi of Uparbeda under Kusum block is located at a distance of 20kms from Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district. The villagers are extremely proud as one among them will probably soon get decorated with the country's most prestigious position. However, despite feeling proud, the villagers have expressed displeasure as their village is yet to get an electricity connection.

There are over 50 houses apart from Murmu's dwelling in this tribal-dominated village. However, the village that recently is grabbing the headlines, is yet to get an electricity connection.

BJP president JP Nadda had announced the NDA's candidate for the presidential elections on Tuesday. "For the first time, preference has been given to a woman tribal candidate. We announce Draupadi Murmu as NDA's candidate for the upcoming Presidential elections," he said.

Pertinent to mention here that the election for the President of India will be held on July 18 and the counting will take place in New Delhi on July 21. Worth mentioning that the tenure of the current President of India Ram Nath Kovind is coming to an end on July 24.
