In a good news for the farmers of Delanga and Kanasa block of the district, Odisha Government has granted an amount of Rs 10.34 crore for the renovation of Luna river.

According to the State government sources, the renovation work of the river which will be done in two phases has already been started.

Work from Sunida to Juilunda area in Delang block will be carried out at a cost of Rs 4.87 crore. Similarly work from Juilunda to Nagamna will be done with the rest of the amount. 

Digging and desilting work in the river will be undertaken in a stretch of about 15 kilometer with 40 meter width and 2 meter in height.

"One year target has been set to complete the project. It will help the farmers of Kanasa and Delanga in great deal to irrigate their lands," said Santosh Kumar Swain, Assistant Chief Engineer of Irrigation Department.

The farmers of the area have expressed their pleasure over the development.

"The renovation of the river will help farmers of the area in irrigating their lands. Hopefully we will get water to our lands round the year and grow variety of crops. It will boost our livelihood and source of income," said Dusasana Swain, a local farmer.
