Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday released financial assistance of Rs 742.58 crore under the KALIA scheme to farmers on the occasion of auspicious ‘Nuakhai’.

The assistance has been released to over 37.12 lakh small and marginal farmers across the State for Rabi crop, a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) read.

An assistance of Rs 2,000 has been credited into the bank accounts of the beneficiary farmers in the State. Patnaik said that the State had received deficient rainfall in the month of August. With several parts of the State now experiencing rainfall, there might be an overall change in the drought-like situation in the State.

“The State government is closely monitoring the situation. Already field officials have been directed to remain alert and establish close coordination with the farmers. The farmers are urged to work follow the instructions of the agriculture department,” said Patnaik.

Patnaik further said since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the State government has disbursed over Rs 3200 crore to farmers so far.

The government is coordinating with the Centre to resolve the problems in the supply of fertilisers. “The problems of the farmers cannot be overlooked. I am personally in touch with the Centre to resolve the problems they are facing over the fertiliser issue. We have also taken up the issue of MSP and crop insurance with the Centre,” said Patnaik.
