A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan from Odisha was reportedly injured in an encounter that took place between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir today.

Head constable Pramod Patra was among the five CISF personnel who sustained injuries in a grenade attack carried out by terrorists at Sunjuwan area of Jammu.

The CISF officials said the bus carrying 15 personnel for their morning shift came under attack at 4.25 am near the Chaddha camp area. The grenade attack let to a gunfight near an Army camp.

A senior official of the paramilitary force said the terrorists fired at the bus and lobbed grenades, killing Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) S P Patil and injuring two other occupants of the bus.

The force retaliated effectively. In the counter-terror operation, a terrorist was also killed, the CISF officer said.

The injured jawans have been admitted to a hospital in Jammu.

The encounter at Sunjwan took place amid heightened security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir, two days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Samba district.

Taking to Twitter BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda condemned the cowardly attack and wrote, "I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on the #CISF vehicle in Jammu. My condolences to the martyred jawan. I am saddened to learn that an Odia jawan is among the five injured CISF personnel. I pray before Lord Jagannath for everyone's speedy recovery."
