Baripada: A staff nurse at Thakurmunda Community Health Centre in Mayurbhanj district has allegedly demanded money from the relatives of a pregnant woman for her treatment. A video of the incident, that took place three months ago, has gone viral on the internet recently.

According to sources, one pregnant woman of Ranibhola village was admitted to the hospital for her delivery in March. One staff nurse identified as Rukmini Jena at the hospital had asked relatives of the expecting mother to give her Rs 200-300 for vaccination and other treatments.

In the video, the nurse can be seen demanding the money while saying that she would share the money with another colleague.

An investigation into matter was launched by the sub-divisional medical officer after a complaint was lodged in this regard. The medical officer has submitted the investigation report to Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO).

“Acting on the complaint, we have launched an investigation into the matter and submitted our report to CDMO,” said Akshay Rath, sub-divisional medical officer, Karanjia.

Meanwhile, the staff nurse has refuted the allegations brought against her and said the complaint is baseless.

“The complaint is baseless. If someone shoots a video and makes it viral, that does not mean that the allegations are true,” said Jena.
