Palpable tension ran high at the Paradip Port Trust Hospital (PPT Hospital) in the port town of Jagatsighpur district on Sunday after family members of a deceased staff nurse and local residents staged a demonstration, holding the hospital authorities responsible for her death.

Deeptiranjan Senapati, the husband of the nurse, complained that she had been subjected to mental torture by the doctor at the hospital for a long period. Working under relentless stress backfired her health and she suffered from hypertension. We suspect that it might have triggered a brain stroke,” Deeptiranjan alleged.

“We demand Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, Dr Prahallad Panda to come out and explain exactly what led to her death. We will not call off our strike until she is given justice,” said Deeptiranjan.

Seshadeb Senapati, another family member of the nurse alleged that during the course of treatment, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the hospital administered as many as ten injections to her which later proved fatal. The CMO should clarify us what were those injections and the reason behind their usage,” said Seshadeb.

According to the aggrieved family members, the nurse was on duty when she suddenly fell ill on Saturday afternoon. After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to a private hospital in Cuttack, and from there, to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar.

But she reportedly breathed her last in the midway and was declared dead after being brought to AIIMS.

The hospital authorities are yet to come up with their reactions on the allegations levelled by the deceased’s family members and villagers.
