Nine eminent artists from Odisha have been selected for the prestigious National Handloom Award for 2018.

Out of the nine, two have been selected for the Shilpa Guru award, five artists for National Handloom Award and two for National Merit Certificate from Odisha.

Bijay Kumar Parida from Khordha will receive the Shilpa Guru award for his palm-leaf inscriptions. Maheswar Parida from Balasore will receive the Shilpa Guru award for stone carving. Rajendra Meher from Sundergarh for Tussar work.

Kuni Senapati from Dhenkanal has been selected for the National Handloom Award for coconut jute works. Santosh Senapati and Sanghamitra Moharana from Khordha for National Handloom Award.

Bhoi and Pramod Moharana from Khordha will receive the National Merit Certificate.

Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, has been following a policy of promoting and encouraging the Handloom Sector through a number of Policies and programme through the Office of Development Commissioner for Handlooms.
