Several parts of Odisha have been experiencing heavy rainfall for past few days. Incessant downpour under the impact of back-to-back low pressure systems has led to inundation in many low-lying areas bringing misery to the lives of people especially in west and south Odisha.

Water level in different rivers flowing through Malkangiri is on a rise due to heavy rainfall. Communication has also been disrupted on National Highway 326 due to water-logging in some parts of the district. Besides, connectivity between Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has been affected severely because of nonstop rains. Water discharge has been affected in Sileru and Saberi rivers due to swelling of Godavari River.

A team led by Malkangiri additional collector visited low-lying areas of the district to review the situation and extend a helping hand to people stuck amid the nature’s fury.

Kalahandi district has also bore the brunt of monsoon in the last two days. Incessant rain pounded several parts of the district causing water-logging situation. Vehicular communication between Dharmagarh and Bhawanipatna has been disrupted as the bridge connecting Dharmagarh and Junagarh has been damaged by heavy rain.

Twin City Bus stands in poor shape

On the other hand, Badambadi bus terminal in Cuttack and Baramunda in Bhubaneswar have turned into a veritable hell in rainy season.Over a thousand buses ply from the two of the biggest bus junctions to every nook and corner of the state. Despite being the busiest bus depots, potholes, congestion, chaos and stench from garbage welcome passengers to the bus stands during monsoon.

Locals said during rainy days, it becomes nearly impossible to walk to and from the bus stands due to acute water-logging. However, both the municipal corporations and the state government have failed to sort out these problems.
Angul-Paradip bus stand too is in dilapidated shape. During rains, potholes get filled with water, making it difficult for the commuters to board buses.

Two years back, the state government had planned to renovate the terminal which is yet to be implemented. The waiting hall at the stand has been lying in poor shape which is adding to the woes.
