After WHO declared monkeypox a Public Health Emergency, Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das on Tuesday called a high-level meeting to discuss the situation in the State. The meeting was chaired by Das and attended by officials from the Health department.

Das has written a letter to all the CDMOs of district headquarters hospitals.

Briefing the media, Das said, “I had called a meeting to review the monkeypox situation in the State. I have directed all the CDMOs to prepare two beds in every District Headquarters Hospital. I have also called for another review meeting on monkeypox on July 30. We have to be all prepared and ready to tackle the disease.”

“Like Covid-19, monkeypox is also a viral disease. So, we have to be prepared. We have kept the beds ready. People having any symptoms should immediately go for a check-up. There are at least 10 check-up labs across India. So, I will discuss all this in the review meeting on July 30. We also are keeping a close vigil on people coming from abroad,” he added.

Earlier, the Union health ministry had issued guidelines for management of monkeypox to all states and UTs to ensure preparedness to deal with any potential crisis.
