The body of an elderly woman was found in a cashew orchard near Radhamohanpur village under Jankia police limits of Khordha district on Sunday, more than one month after she had gone missing.

The deceased was identified as Hemamani Muduli who was in her seventies. She had gone missing from Siko village on March 29.

The deceased's body was decomposed beyond recognition and her family identified the body from saree and ‘mangalsutra’.

As per sources, Hemamani had gone to a pond to take bath on March 29 and did not return home. After a frantic search, her family members had lodged a missing complaint at the local police outpost.

Though police had conducted searches, they could not trace the woman. On Sunday evening, some locals spotted her body near the cashew orchard and informed the police.

The spot where the body was found is three kilometres away from the deceased’s house.

The police have launched an investigation into the case and are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of her death.
