Tension ran high at Paralakhemundi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after a minor boy undergoing treatment there died due to alleged medical negligence on Tuesday.

According to sources, the minor boy from Gurandi village under Goshani block in Gajapati district was rushed to a community health centre (CHC) by his family members after he fall sick.

However, he was shifted to DHH as no doctor was present at the CHC. But to the surprise, no doctor was either present at the DHH. The child was provided treatment by a staff nurse, but died during the treatment, sources informed.

“I called the hospital staff repeatedly to look after the child while he was struggling for life, but no one attended to him. They said the doctor will come and treat him. By the time doctor reached the hospital, the child had already died,” alleged Anil Bisoi, relative of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Paralakhemundi Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has assured an investigation into the matter.

“A thorough investigation into the matter will be conducted and necessary action will be taken against whosever will be found guilty,” said CDMO Dr Pardip Patra.
