A mild earthquake jolted Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts of Odisha on Thursday, triggering widespread panic among the residents. 

The earthquake of magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale hit the regions between 11.40 am and 12 pm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar informed. 

It lasted for about six to seven seconds, the weather office added.
Under the impact of the earthquake, tremors were felt in several regions of Nabarangpur district including Umerkote, Chandahandi, Jharigaon and Dabugaon. 

As per initial reports, the walls of several houses reportedly developed cracks under the impact of the tremors. However, no major damage was reported at the time of filing the report.
