In a jolt to BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty, who has been battling a divorce case with his estranged wife Varsha Priyadarshini, the Cuttack district court has put a stay on the SDJM's earlier order directing Varsha to vacate husband Anubhav's home with monthly maintenance money of Rs 30,000.

On June 2, while hearing a petition filed by actor-turned politician Anubhav Mohanty, the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court had directed his estranged wife Varsha Priyadarshini to vacate the lawmaker’s parental home at Nandi Sahi in Cuttack city.

The court had also asked the MP to pay a sum of Rs 30,000 on/before 10th of every month to her for her accommodation elsewhere. The court set two months' deadline for Varsha to leave the house after receiving the first financial assistance.

The very next day the MP had deposited Rs 30,000 in the account of Varsha.

However, pleading for a stay on the SDJM court’s order, Varsha had filed a petition on Monday, citing the reasons that she doesn’t have any alternatives to stay elsewhere since she has no father or brother and her mother is sick and depending on her sister. On Tuesday, the petition was moved.

Since the order copy is yet to be received, it is believed that the court might have considered Varsha’s pleads.

While July 4 has been set as the date for next hearing, the order has also mentioned that the stay will be effective till the appearance of the actor.

The court has also served a notice on Anubhav, asking him to file his response.

Notably, neither Anubhav, nor his advocate appeared in today’s hearing.
