Relatives of Kartik Meher, who died of alleged medical negligence at a private clinic in Birmaharajpur, in Odisha’s Sonepur district, on Wednesday night, sat on dharna with the body of the deceased in front of the clinic demanding compensation.

As per reports, the deceased, Kartik was taken to a local private clinic in Birmaharajpur after he complained developed fever and complained of severe headache on December 28 (Tuesday). However, he was later shifted to the Sonepur hospital and then to VIMSAR, Burla after his condition deteriorated.

He breathed his last on Wednesday night while under treatment at VIMSAR, Burla.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased alleged that his health condition worsened after taking medicines and injections from the doctor at the private clinic in Birmaharajpur.

Rajesh Meher, a relative of Kartik said, “The doctor at Sonepur Hospital rebuked me for taking the patient to that private clinic initially. He said, I should have come to the hospital first.”

“I am sure that Kartik died of medical negligence and by administration of wrong injection and medicines at that private clinic. I want the deceased’s family should be duly compensated,” Rajesh demanded.

A complaint has been lodged at the local Police station and a probe is underway to ascertain the veracity of allegations.

Speaking on the case, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Birmaharajpur, Dolamani Bhoi said, “We are conducting an inquiry at present and I will be able to shed more light on the truth behind the allegations only after the completion of the probe.”
