The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has called for a meeting for the revision of the schedule for the rituals at Srimandir for Lunar Eclipse on November 8, informed Puri Collector Samarth Verma on Sunday.

The decision for the review meeting was made after astrologers and scholars pointed out mistakes in the timings that had been finalised by the SJTA.

Since Kartik Purnima will also be celebrated on the day, scholars and astrologers advised to reschedule all the rituals and offering of different prasads.

“The Kartik Purnima is falling on November 8. We observed the solar eclipse without any controversy and all the rituals went well with the blessing of Lord Jagannath. So, we expect the lunar eclipse will also go well. I have called for a meeting in the presence of the secretary and president to reschedule the rituals and offering of different prasads,” Verma said while speaking to media.

Earlier, the SJTA had announced the rituals for the deities on the day of the lunar eclipse on November 8 would be completed before 8.29 am. It also advised the people to abstain from taking food and not to perform puja after this time.

However, astrologers pointed out that the rituals should be stopped before sunrise on November 8 as per astrological calculations. Following the misunderstanding over the timing, the SJTA has decided to hold a meeting and revise the schedule of the rituals.

This will be the last solar eclipse of the year. The eclipse which is a partial one will take place on Tuesday. As per the earlier schedule, cooking, food intake and rituals of deities were prohibited from 4.57 am.
