A youth, whose mutilated body was found along the rail tracks in Kaipadar-Dhaulimuhan railway section in Khordha on Friday, appeared to have killed himself.

A self-shot video of Soumya Ranjan Parida, a resident of Puri Gadisagoda area cutting his wrist before his death has gone viral. In the video clip, he was heard confessing that he was taking his own life after being betrayed by a girl he loved.

"I fell in love with a girl, but she betrayed me. Please forgive me, I made a big mistake. It is my appeal to people to take care of my parents and younger brother. I do not want to live,” the youth said in the video.

After cutting his wrist, Soumya reportedly jumped before a moving train leading to his death.

The brother-in-law of Soumya also informed that the youth had talked with his family on phone before slitting his wrist.

“I was going to bed after having dinner at around 11 pm last night when we saw that he shared status on Facebook and his WhatsApp that he cut his wrist due to betrayal by a girl. He called up me and requested to take good care of his parents,” said the brother-in-law of the decreased.

“He said he would die and asked us not to search for him before snapping the call. Though we searched for him, we could not trace him,” he added.

“Later, we contacted the police control room and gave details of his cellphone number. However, the police sat silent and did not help us in tracing Soumya. Had the police tracked the cellphone location of my brother-in-law, he would have been alive now," said the brother-in-law of the deceased Soumya.

Meanwhile, though a police team from Sadar police visited the spot in the morning, it reportedly did not inquire into the matter citing that the area falls under the jurisdiction of the Government Railway Police (GRP).
