A massive ladoo offered to Lord Ganesh was sold for a eye-popping Rs 8.70 lakh at Talcher in Angul district. An organisation, Lalbagh Raja Kaniha bought the giant size sweet for the whopping price.

The bidding started with a few thousand rupees and within a few minutes it was auctioned for the highest-ever bid amid loud cheers by hundreds of devotees.

Despite heavy rainfall, devotees stayed throughout the auction and cheered for the buyers. After back to back fight, the ladoo was finally auctioned for Rs 8.70 lakh.

Devotees believe the ladoo brings prosperity to the winner. As a good sign, the winners not only distribute pieces of laddu among their family and friends, but also sprinkle the remnants in their agriculture fields, business houses and at home.

A lot of people bid to claim this holy prasad every year. This  year, at least five organisations had participated in the auction to buy the ladoo. But, Lalbagh Raja Kaniha managed to buy the ladoo.

Later, devotees braved the downpour to take out a procession and bid adieu to Lord Ganesh, until next year. The annual auction of Lord Ganesh’s ladoo in Talcher marks the beginning of the Ganesh immersion procession, which passes through various parts of the town.

Later, the Lord is immersed in a pond in the heart of the town. Devotees celebrated the Ganesh Visarjan with pomp and gaiety.
