The district police of Mayurbhanj has suspended an ASI on charges of dereliction of duties in connection with shocking incidents of a quack reportedly administering injections meant for animals to patients on separate occasions.

Mayurbhanj SP suspended Mahuldiha Police Station ASI Pabitra Mohan Rout in connection with the matter on Wednesday.

According to sources, some locals of Mahuldiha area block had handed over one Biswanath Behera to the custody of Mahuldiha police alleging that he had administered three livestock injections to one Srikanta Mahanta of the village while impersonating himself as a staff of Thakuramunda hospital.

However, the in-charge of the police station, ASI Rout had freed the quack after only signing an undertaking from him.

A day later, the quack reportedly administered injections meant for livestock to another patient named Daitari Mahanta of the same village. This time, he identified himself as a new doctor from Bhubaneswar.

During both incidents, the patients had to be admitted to hospital for emergency treatment.

Later, based on the written complaint by the Srikanta followed by an FIR by Daitari's son, Gajendra, police registered a case against the fake doctor under various sections including attempt to murder.

However, the accused is said to have gone absconding after the incident.
