Lawyer attempts to run car over wife’s family members

Frustrated with marital discord, a lawyer attempted to run a car over his wife’s family members on Monday. The bizarre incident has been reported from Kacheri square in Sambalpur. The accused has been identified as Panchanan Das of Burla, a lawyer in profession. 

The incident occurred near Sambalpur SP’s official residence. The brother-in-law of the accused sustained grievous injuries in the accident and has been admitted to hospital.

On the other hand, the boundary wall of Sambalpur SP’s residence has been damaged in the mishap after the car rammed into it. 

According to sources, a rift prevailed between Panchanan and his wife Chinmayee Mohapatra over various marital issues. In a fit of rage, Das attempted to kill Chinmayee, her parents and two brothers while they were standing at the Kachari square near Sambalpur SP’s residence. 

One of Chinmayee’s brothers broke his leg in the accident. Fortunately, all the other family members had a close shave. On the other hand, passers-by overpowered the accused lawyer and handed him over to police. 

A case has been registered and the lawyer has been detained for further interrogation, police said.
