The much-awaited Khordha-Bolangir railway project is on course to see completion of a new target, the commissioning of railway section between Mahipur and Nuagaon.

A trial train run was conducted on the 13 km long railway stretch of the project on Wednesday under the high-level inspection by Commissioner, Railway Safety (CRS), South Eastern Circle, Kolkata.

Once declared fit, the railway section will be opened for traffic which means trains originating from Nayagarh will now be able to ply till Nuagaon.

Notably, Nayagarh Town-Bhubaneswar Express service was called off on Wednesday to make way for movement of different machinery and inspection trains in the section.

East Coast Railway (ECR) sources said the 3 km long Khurda Road-Bypass line has also been completed and will be put to inspection by top officials on Friday.

The 289-km long Khordha-Bolangir project, sanctioned around 28 years ago, has seen multiple hiccups come in the way of its completion due to various issues like land acquisition. The railway line has seen commissioning of a total of only 96 km of railway line from both the sides so far.
