Angry villagers of Sinkulabahal village under Telkoi block in Keonjhar district on Monday staged a demonstration at the Telkoi Grid demanding installation of a new transformer in place of the burnt one. They alleged in this scorching summer, they have been without electricity for a month now.

According to the village’s electricity consumers, the transformer of their village was burnt out a month ago. For a new transformer, the consumers were asked to deposit their outstanding bills and they did accordingly. The out-of-order transformer was taken away on June 4 but the department is showing little interest to install a new one.

The angry villagers held Tata Power responsible for this. Moreover, they threatened to stage a road blockade on National Highway 49 if a new transformer is not installed at the earliest.

Expressing their displeasure over the department’s apathetic attitude, Anita Nayak and Ramesh Nayak, resident of Sinkulabahal village said, “As per the direction of the department, we had deposited our outstanding bills. They had taken the burnt transformer away on June 4 but not replaced it with a new one. Neither the SDO nor the Executive Officer is paying any heeds to our complaints.”

“Protesting against their apathy, today we staged a demonstration before the Telkoi Grid. If our demand is not fulfilled at the earliest we will take to the streets,” they warned.

In this regard, no reaction from the electricity department is received as yet.
