With the Odisha government all set to impose hefty fines on vehicles without High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) with registration numbers ending with 1, 2, 3 and 4 from October 1, people in the State are in dismay over the long waiting period to get the registration plate before deadline.
The deadline for affixation of HSRP on old vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019, carrying Odisha registration mark and registration number ending with 1, 2, 3 and 4, is going to end on September 30.
With just a few days left before the deadline, the number of online applications for HSRP has witnessed a steep rise in the State.
“My vehicle’s registration number ends with 5. After trying for months, I got a slot for November month end. The government should take necessary steps for speedy delivery of registration plates. Besides, the build quality of HSRP is very poor,” alleged a resident of Balasore.
“I am yet to understand the benefits of using HSRP. Who will be benefited for using the registration plate, government or the vehicle owner?” questioned another local.
Targeting government over insufficient time limit, road safety activist Prakash Mohapatra said, “It is very difficult to affix HSRP in all the vehicles with a short period of time. People are in panic state as the deadline is fast approaching.”
Notably, more than 50,000 online applications for HSRP are being received daily, while around 13,000 number plates are being affixed. As of now, more than 12.6 lakh online applications for HSRP have been received while over 6.51 lakh vehicles have got their high-security registration plates.
How to apply HSRP

- Click book HSRP
- Complete HSRP Registration by entering name, vehicle registration number, email, phone number and state details.
- You will be redirected to a separate page where you need to enter details like vehicle registration number, chassis number and engine number.
- After providing details, select location and slot for affixation of HSRP
- Pay the fee online
- Save and take a print out of the same for future references
