A inmate of Anwesha hostel in Phulbani block of Kandhamal district allegedly died after falling ill. The deceased has been identified as Sumanjit Baliarsingh, a Class 6 student.

Reportedly, the boy was residing in the hostel which is being run by the block welfare department.

According to reports, the deceased belonged to Sindhuguda village under Kotagada police limits in the district.

The incident came to the fore after the hostel superintendent and the welfare extension officer visited the deceased’s home to return the school bag of Sumanjit.

As per reports, the hostel superintendent admitted Sumanjit to Phulbani district headquarters hospital after falling ill on the 21st of last month. Unfortunately on 22nd Sumanjit breathed his last at Bhanjanagar while he was en route to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Reports suggest that the hostel superintendent and the Phulbani Welfare Extension Officer (WEO) conspired to suppress the matter by immediately calling the parents of Sumanjit and handed over the body to the family members. Phulbani District Collector has ordered the Sub Collector to start a probe into the matter.
