Amidst the ongoing chaos over affixation of high security registration plates (HSRP) caused by non-availability of slots ahead of the completion of the September end deadline, a lot of people are confused whether to opt for the frames being offered by dealers at a cost of Rs 200 or not.

A lot of people have expressed resentment over such a move as they claim it absolutely not required and is an additional burden on them even though its optional.

M.F. Rahman, an advocate from Cuttack said, “After booking slots and making an online payment of over Rs 300 for the HSRP, the dealers asked to install the frame which costs around Rs 200 for the two-wheelers.”

According to Rahman, similar frames are easily available in the market which costs around Rs 50 to 60 for two-wheelers and around Rs 100 for four-wheelers.

“I opted for one frame for my vehicle while I purchased another frame from the open market which was cheaper than the one offered by the concerned affixation points/ dealers,” Rahman added.

Another four-wheeler owner, Uttam said, “I had booked the slot in June and made an online payment of Rs 708 for the HSRP. Later, I paid Rs 400 extra towards the frame when I went to affix the HSRP.”

According to Uttam, the number plate which was installed is very thin and he fears whether it can withstand the impact of any accident or not.

Here’s what dealers say:

-The actual price of the number plate frame is Rs 250 and it is being offered at a special price of Rs 200 for two wheeler.

-The benefits of number plate frames include

- it will prevent the number plate from bend and damage.

-It will look beautiful on the vehicle.

-It reduces vibration while driving.

Here’s What State Transport Authority (STA) Says:

As per instruction, nobody can force any owner to buy the plate. It is purely a choice of the owner as to whether he wants to buy or not.
