The salary of the Headmistress of Mahaveer Nodal School at Mathasahi in Balasore was withheld after class-3 students of the school failed to recite the multiplication table of 3 in front of the School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Dash on Saturday.

Dash was on a field visit to Balasore when he came across the sorry state of teaching in the school. The displeased minister held both the class teacher and the Headmistress responsible for not making students learn the minimum mathematics and sent the Headmistress a show-cause notice withholding her salary.

Speaking to the media persons, Dash said, “When I asked them to read the multiplication tables, the students failed to recite the table of three.”

“I was utterly dissatisfied with the teaching imparted in that school. I directed the DEO to issue a show-cause notice to the Headmistress.

“I have also directed to hold her salary until the class 3 students are able to recite the multiplication tables from 2-15,” he added.

Dash has been touring the schools after a new ‘T’ (Tour) was added in the 5T model of governance in the State.

As per reports the minister also took stock of the mid-day meal scheme in the schools. He was seen distributing chocolates to the students as well.

Pertinent to mention here that Dash and Balasore MLA Swaroop Das were reportedly fined for violating traffic norms on Saturday.

As per reports, MLA Das was riding the bike while the Minister was pillion riding (both without helmets) when traffic police caught them near Hemkapada chhak in Balasore.

The traffic police then issued a challan of Rs 1000 in the name of the owner of the bike. Later, MLA Das reportedly paid the fine.
