Tension ran high at Charampa area in Bhadrak district after a clash broke out between two transgender groups over an extortion dispute at a toll gate late last night. As many as 10 persons sustained injuries in the clash.

According to sources, of the 10 injured, health condition of four is stated to be critical and they have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

A group of transgender reportedly attacked another group while they were having a meeting at a hotel.

The group reportedly abducted a few members of the other group before ransacking the hotel, sources informed, adding that a complaint in this connection has been lodged at the Town police station.

“Why the police is yet to take any action even after a complaint has been lodged? Why the administration is mum? We demand justice for us. If required, we will meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and knock doors of the Supreme Court,” said a protesting transgender.

“Around 40-50 transgenders were at the hall of my hotel when another group of transgenders barged into the hotel and went on a rampage,” alleged Basant Kumar Ojha, the hotel owner.

Meanwhile, Bhadrak police has conducted a flag march in the area to bring the situation under control.
