A joint team of SOG and DVF personnel unearthed a Maoist dump and recovered hand grenade, generator set and other explosive materials used for making IEDs and other explosive devices in Malkangiri district, on Saturday.

The Maoist dump was busted near Maribeda village in the district. Senior officials said that a raid was conducted by the joint team after credible information was received in this connection.

It is suspected that the explosives were dumped by the rebels with an intention to use them against the security forces in the region.

Malkangiri SDPO, Abhilash G said, “On getting credible input, a search operation was launched under Jodamba police limits. The team has unearthed a Maoist dump and recovered the grenade and other explosive materials.”

The senior official further informed that combing operation has been intensified in the region following the discovery of the explosives and other articles.

In October, the security forces had unearthed a Maoist dump and recovered huge quantity of explosives near the Koraput-Malkangiri border. The seized explosives included- slurry and emulsion explosives (18 pcs), gelatin (500 pcs), camera flash (3 pcs), wire (15 mts), splinters (1200gms) and other Naxal literature.

Similarly, huge cache of explosives, including gelatin and detonators were seized by a team of Border Security Force (BSF) jawans from Piplapadar jungle in Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri district in February this year.
