Authorities of Sambalpur University have decided to unfurl a giant Tricolour on the premises of the premier institution on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day on Wednesday.

The National Flag measuring 100 feet will be hoisted atop a 100 feet-high flagpole installed at the university. The permanent flagpole has been built at a cost of around Rs 9,50,000.

As per university sources, a concrete platform has also been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8,00,000 to support the flag pole. The initiative has been undertaken jointly by the university and a private college in Rourkela.

Similarly, an educational institution from Bhubaneswar has sponsored the flag pole. Arrangements are also in place to illuminate the spot with lighting arrangement.

“Preparations are in the last phase for hoisting the giant Tricolour flag on the university premises. Rest of the final touches will be given this evening,” said Sambalpur University VC Dr. Sanjiv Mittal.

“It’s a rare achievement for the University. The hoisting of the tricolour on Republic Day will be a moment of glory for all of us. We are thankful to all the institutions which have sponsored in fulfiling the noble cause,” said Mittal.
