The doors of Ghatagaon Tarini Temple will remain shut for the devotees for a period of five days, announced the temple trust officials on Tuesday.

As per the announcement, the temple will remain out of bounds for the devotees on December 25 (Christmas), December 26, December 31, 2021 and January 1 and 2, 2022.

The decision has been taken in view of the anticipated rush of devotees to the scared shrine, read an order issued by the temple trust following directions of the district Collector. However, daily rituals at the shrine will continue as usual.

As per the latest notification, devotees can enter the temple on other days by strictly complying with the Covid-19 protocols issued by the State government. The use of masks by devotees has been made mandatory. The entry of children below 10 years has also been restricted.

Earlier, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had also announced the closure of the temple for devotees for a period of three days—December 31, 2021, January 1, 2022 and on January 2 (for sanitation). It is pertinent to mention here that lakhs of devotees throng the Puri Jagannath temple on the occasion of English New Year for the darshan of the holy trinity.

The Odisha government has prohibited ‘Zero Night’ celebrations on December 31 and other functions on January 1. The restrictions were announced by the State government while issuing the Covid-19 guidelines for the month of December.
