With a few photographs of an officer of the district health department, Ganjam, consuming liquor inside the office going viral, the incident has become a talk of the town.

The officer in question is Sandeep Mishra, who works as assistant manager of Rashtriya Bal Suraksha Karyakram (RBSK) and Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK), under National Health Mission (NHM). It has been alleged that he was consuming liquor inside his office. This apart, he behaves badly with female and male employees.

“He uses filthy language whenever he is under the influence of alcohol. He once misbehaved with me as well. Such things shouldn’t have happened inside office. If the veracity of the allegations is proved, action should be taken against him,” said physiotherapist Jagatjay Sharma.

When contacted, chief district medical officer (CDMO), Ganjam, Dr Umashankar Mishra said he is aware about the incident. “I have seen the video. I immediately slapped a show-cause notice on him and he has given his reply. Besides, I have formed a committee to probe the allegations. Once I receive the report, disciplinary action will be taken against him.”

On the other hand, the assistant manager, RBSK, termed the allegation baseless. “I have never taken liquor during office hour. The photo which is now doing the rounds in social media may be an edited one. I can swear upon my children that I have never even tested the brand which is seen in the picture,” said he, adding the entire episode is a conspiracy against him.
