Cracking whip on Goods and Services Tax (GST) defaulters, Enforcement Squads carried out raids at several furniture godowns across the State on Wednesday.

As per reports, around 40 enforcement officers, divided into eight teams, are conducting simultaneous raids at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Berhampur and Kantabanjhi.

Sources said a lot of irregularities in filing GST by owners of several furniture showrooms have already been found after inspection of their stock. And many more will be unearthed after completion of the raids.

Speaking to OTV, a furniture showroom owner in Cuttack who has been raided, said, “Once you open a business in the city there will be competitors who will try to pull you down by registering false complaints. Nevertheless, I am cooperating with the officials with all required documents.”

Nabakumar Katakia, Assistant CT & GST Officer said, “We received orders from the Commissioner’s Office to conduct raids. There are several teams raiding at multiple places. We will be able to tell more about the outcome only after completion of raids.”

Earlier in September, Police officials had busted a huge GST fraud racket that was operating in many states including in Odisha and involved in over Rs 2000 Crore fraud.

As per reports, the accused have made fraudulent transactions of over Rs 323 Crore under ITC and Rs 1819 Crore under fake-shell transactions. The fraud caused a loss to the tunes of Rs 58.14 Crore to the State exchequer.
