Freak mishap: Kendrapara boys buried under sand during play

Two minor boys died after a portion of land gave way near a pond at Magura Gandapatna village in Kendrapara district. The age of the deceased is said to be 12 and 9 years old.

As per reports, the minor boys were playing near the pond on Wednesday. While they were playing, a portion of land collapsed and buried them under.

The deceased went with some of their friends near the under-construction pond. While others were busy fishing, the two dug a small hole and sat there to get respite of scorching heat.

But when the burrow became bigger, the top of it fell over them and buried them under.

After the incident, out of fear, the local boys who went with them fled and hid at their house. 

Later, the locals tried to search for them to know about their whereabouts, the other two revealed that they were buried under the pile of sand.

The locals at 9 pm dug the pile and recovered the minors. The minors were rushed to a local hospital where doctors on duty declared them received dead.

“We received a phone call from our nephew and after learning about the incident we rushed to our village,” said one of the deceased’s father.  

According to the parents of the deceased, both were not there when the incident happened.
