Former Contractual Worker Attempts Suicide Over Non Payment Of Dues In Cuttack

A former contractual worker of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department Of Cuttack Sadar block has attempted suicide by trying to jump off a water tank in Salepur in Cuttack district on Monday.

The man, identified as Deepak Ranjan Khanduala, took the extreme step over non-payment of salary.

According to reports, Deepak was working as a pump operator with Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department on a contractual basis during 2018-2019. However, he has not received a single penny for his services.

I have been approaching concerned officials to clear the dues several times, but all my complaints have fallen into deaf ears, alleged Deepak. 

Finding no other options, I decided to take the extreme step, he added.

High drama unfolded at the water tank after Deepak was seen atop the water tank, trying to jump off. Kishan Nagar Police and fire personnel rushed to the spot on information and stopped him from committing the act. 

However, there has been no official response from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department on the issue.

Meanwhile, police have taken him to the police station and further investigation into the matter is on.
