A video of flood affected people begging for polythene sheets in front of Biramaharajpur Tehsildar has gone viral on social media.

In the video, the flood-hit people can be seen claiming that their village Khambasiripali has suffered severe loss owing to flood in River Mahanadi but the district administration has failed to provide a single polythene sheet to the needy.

They further alleged that at a time when they are spending sleepless nights, the State government continues to be in deep slumber.

The administration’s 'failure' to provide polythene sheets for the flood-hit has prompted a few political leaders and locals of Khambasiripali villagers to raise their voice.

A group of people led by Biramaharajpur Zilla Parishad Zone 1 member Laba Kumar Sahu adopted this way to fulfill their demands. They lay down before the Tehsildar begging for polythene sheets.

“Many houses have been destroyed in the village due to flood. However, the administration has failed to provide a single polythene sheet to the hapless people," Laba Kumar Sahu said.

Bibhudha Gadanayak, Tehsildar of Biramaharajpur, said, “We had already visited the village which has incurred minimal loss. After they brought this allegation, our officials again paid a visit to the flood-hit village and made a list of affected families. Only one house has got affected by the flood so far. If needed, they will visit again so that no needy will not be deprived of getting polythene sheets.”
