A group of fishermen in Digha area on the West Bengal-Odisha border had a day to remember on Saturday when they caught a haul of exotic fish. 

As per sources, the fishermen netted as many as 121 Telia fish (also called Bhola or Ghol) each weighing up to 18 kg.

The fish haul was later put up for auction by the Digha Fishermen and Fish Traders' Association. A pharmaceutical company of Kolkata is said to have brought all the fish after winning the bid for around Rs 2 crore. 

The Ghol fish which is known among the scientific community as Protonibea diacanthus, is a type of black-spotted croaker fish which generally inhabits the Indo-Pacific region. 

It is not only a delicacy but it also has many medicinal properties and is considered amongst the most expensive variety of marine fish due to its high value in various countries.

Its parts are used to make medicines for treatment of some of the diseases like cancer. As per health experts, Ghol fish contain nutrients like iodine, omega-3, EPA, iron, magnesium, DHA in rich quantities.
