In a shocking incident, family members of a deceased had to cross a swollen nullah to cremate the body risking their lives after roads leading to crematorium were flooded due to torrential rain for past few days.

This incident took place at Beheraguda under Golamunda block in Kalahandi district.

Sources said, the deceased Santa Rana was suffering from paralysis for a long time and succumbed on Tuesday evening. As Hindus follow death and birth rituals strictly, Rana’s family decided to cremate the body braving the bad weather. They returned home crossing the nullah again after cremating the body.

It is learnt that cremation ground is situated on the other side of the nullah.  A few residents had agricultural firms on the other side of the nullah. Some even constructed their houses under Awas yojana on that side of the nullah. Also, residents depend on the nullah to get supply water.  To sum up, villagers depend on this nullah for their daily chores.

Though they have been demanding construction of a bridge over the nullah but the government is yet to do the needful.
Every year Beheraguda faces same sort of situations during rainy days but the district administration is yet to pay heed to villagers’ pleas.
