Odisha-born IPS officer and former Director-General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu, Jalada Kumar Tripathy, on Thursday was appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Odisha.

The post was lying vacant following the completion of the term of Sunil Mishra as the State Chief Information Commissioner.

The name of the 1985-cadre IPS officer for the coveted post was reportedly finalised at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held recently. A notification on the appointment of Tripathy was issued by the Odisha Governor, Ganeshi Lal today.

“In pursuance of sub-section-3 of section 15 of the Right to Information Act, 2005 (22 of 2005), and on the recommendation of the Committee constituted for the purpose, the Governor of Odisha is pleased to notify the appointment of Jalada Kumar Tripathy as the State Chief Information Commissioner, Odisha Information Commission from the date he assumes charge of office,” read a notification issued by the Information and Public Relations Department, Odisha.
