The Odisha government on Tuesday handed down compulsory retirement to five more officials on grounds of corruption and inefficiency. 

Those against whom the action has been taken include an assistant engineer, CDPO, Anganwadi supervisor, police inspector and revenue supervisor. With this, the number of corrupt officials either dismissed or sent on mandatory retirement has gone up to 146 in the State.  

The tainted officials include Santosh Kumar Das, Assistant Engineer, Baripada ITDA in Mayurbhanj district. He was accused of corruption and disproportionate assets worth Rs 2.80 crore was detected in his possession. He has been given compulsory retirement on grounds of inefficiency, dishonesty and financial irregularities, a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said. 

Sarala Dei, Community Development Project Officer (CDPO), Jagatsinghpur district, Balikuda, who was caught by the anti-corruption department while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 has also been given compulsory retirement.

Similarly, Jagatsinghpur Balikuda Anganwadi Supervisor Pratima Sahu was caught by the anti-corruption department while demanding a bribe. She was arrested and sent to judicial custody. 

Ramchandra Behera, police inspector of Angul Police Training College, against whom several complaints had been received, has been given compulsory retirement due to inefficiency and disorderly behaviour. 

Moreover, Hridananda Sahu, the Revenue Supervisor working in the office of Sadar Tehsildar of Keonjhar district was caught by the anti-corruption department while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a man while measuring the land. He has been given compulsory retirement due to dishonest activities. 

It may be recalled that the State government had fired a senior Indian forest service (IFS) officer and a senior Indian administrative service (IAS) officer from duty on charges of corruption.
