Hassle-free electric vehicle charging facilities will soon come up at 7 different locations in Bhubaneswar. The welcoming news for the EV sector comes just weeks after Odisha government unveiled its State Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021.

The Bhubaneswar civic authorities have begun measures to set up a robust infrastructure for electric vehicles across the Smart City, officials said.

Priority on selection of locations will be given to malls, parking lots, hotels, residential complexes, workplaces and highways.

A virtual meeting was held on Monday under the chairmanship of BMC Commissioner Sanjay Singh to discuss EV charging stations for public and private transport vehicles.

During the meeting, EV manufacturers also discussed measures adopted by cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Jaipur, they added.

In the first phase, seven charging stations at various places in the city, including two points near the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology and SUM Hospital, the officials said on Monday. Similarly, charging points will be made available at Esplanade Mall, Rasulgarh, DN Regalia and Krishna Plaza, CRP Square. 

Odisha government aims to achieve 20% of all vehicle registrations to be EVs by 2025. In its Electric vehicle (EV) Policy, the government has said it would provide a grant of up to Rs 5000 to purchase charging equipment for the first 20,000 private charging points.
