Keeping the soaring temperature in view, the Odisha government has asked district education officers, district project coordinators and Samagra Siksha to take all necessary measures to tackle the heat wave situation.

In a letter, the State Project Director of Odisha School Education Programme Authority Punam Saha urged the concerned officials to take all precautionary measures to tackle the ensuing heat wave conditions at school level as per the guideline.

The following guidelines will be maintained in all schools under School and Mass Education Department:

  • Extra care should be taken to ensure availability of drinking water in all schools. The tube wells and other drinking water sources inside the school campus should be repaired in consultation with the officials of PR&DW Dept and urban local bodies to ensure uninterrupted water supply.
  • All parents should be sensitized to ensure that their children carry water bottle while coming to school. This should be publicised by the headmasters/SMCs to create awareness among parents.
  • Sufficient ORS should be kept in schools and provided to students/staff whenever required.
  • Outdoor activities should be restricted so as the students not to be exposed to heat wave condition.
  • Extra time will be allocated to sensitise the students about the heat wave precautionary measures.

Notably, physical classes of students from class I to VII, which had been suspended for more than one and a half years due to the pandemic situation, resumed on February 28.
