The Koraput Town police on Thursday recovered the decomposed body of a missing police constable hanging from a tree in a forest near the Circuit House.

The deceased, identified as Deepak Kumar Dungdung, a native of Sundergarh, was missing for the last seven days. He was serving in the 3rd Battalion of the OSAP.

It is suspected that Deepak had died three to four days back. However, it is yet to be ascertained if it is a murder or suicide.

Reportedly the OSAP had lodged a complaint with the town police on Monday stating that Deepak was missing. Following the complaint, the Town police had launched an investigation and tracked down his phone location. They finally found Deepak’s body hanging from a tree in a decomposed state.

Following the recover, police sent the body for an autopsy. A forensic team also reached the spot and collected samples.

Meanwhile, Deepak's brother and wife arrived in Koraput after receiving the information and identified his body.

“An investigation has been launched to find out the reasons behind the incident," Koraput Town Police Station IIC Dhiren Patnaik said.
