In a shocking incident, the body of a judge of special POCSO Court in Cuttack was recovered from his house on Friday.

The deceased judge identified as Justice Subas Kumar Bihari was found hanging at his official residence at CDA sector-9 in the city.

According to sources, Subas was on leave from work for the last two days and was scheduled to rejoin his office on Friday. However, he had once again applied for leave from work today.

As per reports from some colleagues of Subas, he is survived by his wife and two daughters. Initial investigation reports suggest that he might have resorted to extreme measure while his family members were away from the house. However, the exact reason behind the judge’s death is still unclear.

Steno of the judge, Rabi Narayan Mahapatra said that Subas called him earlier morning today and asked him to write a leave application for today. However, a few hours later, he received report that Subas was unwell.

Following the recovery of the judge’s body, he was rushed to a nearby private hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.

Special POCSO Court Public Prosecutor said that Subas was a top and efficient law professional his entire life and also a good human being. He had a fondness to be sociable and had rapport with whoever he worked with, said Ramesh Chandra Mohanty, public prosecutor of the Cuttack Special POCSO Court.

Another law professional from Cuttack High Court Partha Sarathy Nayak said, “It might have been a suicide or there is a possibility of other angles behind the death of Subas, but it is sure that his demise left an unfillable void the judiciary sector.”
