Jatni MLA Sura Routray who is Covid positive was seen on Thursday moving around and mixing with people at the Congress Bhawan and Jayadev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.

The rather outspoken Routray was seen covering his face with a 'gamuchha' (a traditional towel), and not a mask.

When asked about his carelessness and disobedience to the mandatory 14-day quarantine rule, as stipulated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, pat came Routray’s reaction: “I have taken both the doses costing Rs 1,22,000 which the government is providing free of cost. The vaccination has made me confident that I will not infect anyone."

"I heard that this year the celebration of the birth anniversary of eminent freedom fighter and the first Chief Minister of Odisha Harekrushna Mahatab, which fall on November 21, will not be observed in the State. I strongly oppose this. Our party will observe the day with a series of programmes including a 'padayatra' from the PMG square," he added, apparently trying to avoid further questions over his defiance of the law.

Notably, Sura Routray and his wife Mani had tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday. Taking to his twitter handle, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wished for his speedy recovery.

The couple was recently in news for featuring in an Odia music album 'To Prema Re Padigali Re'. Earlier, he had rendered his voice for a song in an album titled 'Rangabati'.
