Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has assured to abolish the contractual appointment rules within a month, Odisha Government Contractual Employees Association (OGCEA) said on Thursday.

Chief advisor of Odisha Contractual Teachers' Association Pravat Mohanty said the state government has accepted the demands of contractual employees as genuine.

All associations under the aegis of the OGCEA on Thursday held a discussion with CM Naveen Patnaik. During the meeting, Patnaik assured that the proposal of abolishing the contractual appointment rules will be lifted in a month.

The government has promised to hold high level discussions in this regard and an announcement will be made soon, said Mohanty.

Speaking to media following the meeting, Mohanty said the district level units of the associations will be called for the next discussion to lay the roadmap for future actions if the government fails to fulfill its assurances.

Thousands of members of OGCEA staged a massive demonstration in Bhubaneswar in September last month while pressing for abolishment of the contractual appointment rules implemented in 2013.

The employee body has also been demanding implementation of one rule for all the government employees.
