The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday demanded the resignation of the State Planning Board Vice President Sanjay Das Burma over the murder of the BJD leader’s close associate Chittaranjan Palai whose body was found under mysterious circumstances in a river near Puri on Monday.

Following allegations made by the deceased’s wife, the police had registered a murder case and started an investigation.

The saffron party made the demand for Das Burma’s ouster on the basis of the accusations made by Palai’s wife implicating the BJD leader in the murder.

Addressing a presser in Bhubaneswar, BJP MLA from Brahmagiri, Lalitendu Bidyadhara Mohapatra said, “From Pari murder in Nayagarh to Mahanga double murder and the recent Mamita Meher murder case, BJD leaders’ links with the perpetrators is known to all. In this case too, the family members of Palai have brought out allegations against Burma.”

“Being a leader of the ruling party, Das Burma has been privileged to evade arrest. He should resign from the position of Vice President of the State Planning Board as soon as possible in the interest of fair investigation,” he added.

Burma refused to comment over the allegations. He however, said that the Police were doing their job and the doubts will be cleared only after the investigation gets over.

“The deceased’s family met the Puri SP today and demanded to handover the probe to the Crime Branch,” he said.

Refusing to divulge the investigation details, Puri SP, Kanwar Bishal Singh, said, “We are collecting evidence and considering all the requests made by the victim’s family. We will release a statement in due time.”

It is pertinent to mention here that Palai went missing on Saturday night after attending a feast hosted by another aide of Burma, Jagannath Sarangi alias Jaga at Matiapada in Puri. His body was later fished out from Nuanai near Puri on Monday.

Priyanka Nayak, the wife of the deceased, has demanded to bring both Jaga and Das Burma under the ambit of the probe. “I want the Police to ask Das Burma too. They both have conspired to kill my husband,” she alleged.
